Mayan History & Culture in Guatemala Tour

Immerse yourself in the fabled history and culture of the Mayans with visits to archaeological sites and centuries-old cities.

About Your Trip

This DreamTrip whisks you to the heart of Mayan civilization, represented by countless sites in Guatemala. Explore Antigua, Tikal National Park and the volcanoes of the Guatemalan highlands. Take a boat ride on Lake Atitlán to visit churches and art galleries. Finally, shop at Latin America’s most famous, important market.

What we love:
• Engulfed in lush jungle, Tikal National Park contains temples, palaces and public squares of great significance to ancient Mayan civilizations.
• Antigua’s well-preserved, Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture and ruins of colonial churches make it a must-see.
• Day 3 features a special dinner with marimba music and a folkloric-costume parade.

Destination

The Central American country of Guatemala boasts lush rainforests, steep volcanoes and an array of fascinating Mayan sites. It also sports urban pleasures, with an estimated 4.5 million residents in Guatemala City, the capital. The country is divided into three regions: the highlands, where the mountains soar; the Pacific coast; and the Petén region, north of the mountains. It is ecologically diverse, with 14 ecoregions including the second-largest forest in Central America. Antigua, west of Guatemala City in the central highlands, brings history alive with its cobblestone streets and carefully preserved Spanish buildings. Antigua once served as the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
